Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it's well blended and thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. If the sauce becomes too thick, you can thin it with a splash of water; if it's too thin, a bit more ketchup will help it thicken up.
