Spanish tomato bread with jamón Serrano
Pan con tomate, or Spanish tomato bread, is a simple and fresh appetizer. Here, a quick topping of chopped tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper is spread over crisp baguette slices. The tomato mixture can be prepared ahead of time and kept chilled, making assembly a breeze. Just before serving, toast the bread and top each piece with the tomato mixture and a piece of salty jamón Serrano.

Prepare Tomato Topping
Combine the chopped tomatoes, 1 clove garlic, 3 tablespoons olive oil, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of pepper in a bowl. Stir everything together until well combined. You can make this ahead and keep it in the fridge until you're ready to serve. - 02
Assemble Tomato Bread
When you're ready to serve, toast the 20 slices of baguette until they're golden and crisp. You want a good crunch to hold up the toppings.
Spoon a generous amount of the prepared tomato topping onto each piece of toast. Tear the 5 slices of jamón Serrano into smaller pieces, then place one piece on top of each tomato-covered baguette slice.
