Shendetlie Honey and Nut Cake
This Shendetlie cake is a dense, honey-sweetened cake that gets its character from a generous soaking in hot sugar syrup. The dough comes together quickly with eggs, sugar, butter, and walnuts, then gets pressed into a tray and baked until firm and dark brown. Once out of the oven, it's cut into pieces and drenched in a simple syrup, which it then absorbs as it cools. Plan for at least an hour of cooling time to let the syrup fully penetrate and mellow.
