Heart Healthy, Whole-Grain Brownies

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8x8 inch square pan.
In a medium bowl, stir together the applesauce, sugar, egg whites, and coconut oil until the mixture is smooth.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, pastry flour, Stevia, baking powder, and salt. Add this dry mixture to the sugar mixture, stirring just until everything is incorporated. Be careful not to overmix the batter.
If you're adding walnuts or chocolate chips, fold them in gently at this point.
Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. It's best not to overcook them, as you want the brownies to stay moist.
Let the brownies cool completely before cutting them into squares.
