Cyndee's Neiman Marcus Cake
This cake has a rich, tender base topped with a creamy mixture that bakes right on top. The cake layer comes together quickly in a stand mixer, creaming butter and sugar until light, then folding in the dry ingredients. The topping, made with cream cheese and cream, spreads over the batter before baking, creating a distinct two-layer effect.

Prepare Pan and Batter
Preheat your oven to 350 F. Grease a 9 by 13 inch baking pan.
For the cake layer, cream the butter and sugar on medium-high speed in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment until the mixture is light and fluffy, which should take about 5 minutes. Reduce the speed to medium, then add the eggs, 1 at a time, followed by the sour cream, vanilla, and lemon zest, scraping down the bowl as needed to ensure everything is well combined.
