Try this Creamy Pasta with Salmon recipe! It's the perfect combination of rich, creamy sauce and tender salmon, ideal for a romantic evening or a luxurious meal at home.

If you’ve ever enjoyed Creamy Pasta with Salmon in a high-quality restaurant, you likely savored every bite. This recipe carries a special feeling, something festive. At least, that’s how I see it. But why not prepare this culinary delight in the comfort of your own home?

You don’t need to visit a restaurant for delicious salmon pasta. While the recipe might seem complicated at first glance, it’s actually quite simple. Like many pasta dishes, Creamy Pasta with Salmon can be ready in no time.

How to Make Creamy Pasta with Salmon?

The process is straightforward. First, you need to choose your salmon. It’s best to buy fresh, not frozen.

  • Use skinless fillets, which you should cut into smaller pieces before cooking. Season them with salt and pepper, then fry them in a pan with a bit of olive oil.
  • Alternatively, you can use a filet with the skin on, which you don’t need to cut beforehand. You can also leave the skin on initially.

If you choose the skinless option, leave the fried pieces in the pan. Add butter, onion, and garlic, then follow the rest of the recipe steps below. I usually prepare my Creamy Pasta with Salmon with the second method, where I first fry the salmon with the skin on.

After cooking, remove the salmon from the pan and set it aside to rest. This way, the fish stays juicier. After a few minutes, the skin can be easily removed. Then, use a fork to break the salmon into smaller pieces.

In the same pan where you fried the salmon with a bit of olive oil, sauté the onion and garlic. Then add washed and halved cherry tomatoes. You can also use cocktail tomatoes.

Which Pasta Works Best with Salmon?

Tagliatelle is a clear winner for me! It’s my favorite type of pasta. When I make fresh homemade pasta, I typically choose tagliatelle. However, fusilli, linguine, or penne also pair wonderfully with the sauce.

When cooking pasta, always salt the water generously. Boil the tagliatelle in lightly boiling water and cook it for a few minutes less than the instructions on the package. This ensures the pasta will be al dente and still cook for another 2 minutes with the cream sauce in the pan.

As with recipes like spaghetti carbonara or cacio e pepe, the pasta water plays an important role in making a creamy sauce. Keep a full glass of pasta water aside when draining the pasta, and add it gradually to create a delicious sauce. For this recipe, you may need less since the dish already includes cream.

Tips for the Best Creamy Pasta with Salmon Recipe

  • Use good quality white wine. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but avoid cheap wines. They say you should cook with wine you’d enjoy drinking.
  • Lemon zest and juice add wonderful flavor and character to the pasta. Add them after incorporating the pasta into the pan.
  • Parmesan. While some chefs say fish and Parmesan don’t pair well, I believe Parmesan (or Pecorino Romano) is essential for any pasta dish.

If you try this fantastic Creamy Pasta with Salmon, it will undoubtedly become one of your favorite recipes—quick, delicious, and simply amazing!

Recipe Preparation Steps
1.

Season the salmon (brought to room temperature) with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a pan and cook the salmon for about 5 minutes on each side. Once cooked, set the salmon aside to rest.

2.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta for 2 minutes less than the package instructions suggest, as it will finish cooking in the sauce.

3.

In the same pan where you cooked the salmon, melt the butter and sauté the finely chopped onion and garlic.

4.

Cut the cherry tomatoes in half and add them to the pan with the tomato paste. Stir well to combine.

5.

Remove the skin from the salmon and flake it with a fork. Add the salmon pieces back to the pan, then pour in the white wine. Let the alcohol evaporate for a couple of minutes.

6.

When the pasta is nearly done, transfer it to the pan along with a bit of the pasta cooking water.

7.

Add the lemon juice and zest, and pour in the cream. Stir in the Parmesan (if using) and cook everything together for about 2 minutes.

8.

Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.
